Children's Literacy
Reading is not only important for the development of a child's literacy but also for the development of their concept of the world around them.
Early reading is the foundation for a child's literacy, providing the tools that enrich vocabulary, increase comprehension skills and allow for self-expression.
Books and short stories provide fictional examples of real-life emotions and situations. When children read and are read to, this can help them understand their emotions and how they might manage them.
StoryDogs is a literacy support program that makes reading fun for children who require assistance with their literacy. Children within the program have a weekly reading session with a StoryDogs dog and its volunteer handler.
Proceeds from the sale of Nessie's Knot (those copies sold by Katie) will be donated to StoryDogs. Please contact Katie for more details.
